The Illyrian Queen - Teuta, is among the most celebrated women in Albanian culture - heritage due to the fact that she was a brave woman with a strong personality - able to keep the Illyrian Kingdom under her control after the death of Illyrian King Agron in 230 BC. At that time the Illyrian fleets had a big impact in controlling the waters of Adriatic and ionian seas. During her rein the Illyrian fleet defeated the Achaean and Aetolian combined fleets in the battle of Paxos, capturing the Corcyra (Corfu) island in Ionian sea. She managed to control the trade routes between Italy-Greece-Albania triangle which forced Roman Republic to go to war with Illyrian Kingdom in 229 BC.
